Donald's Meat Processing was formerly
known as Donald's Slaughter House and was in operation as a custom
slaughter and processing facility in Lexington, Virginia from the 1950's
to the 1980's. Donald's was owned and operated by the Donald family
until the mid 80's when they changed their trade from butchers to
electricians. Meanwhile, the Potter family from the Collierstown and
Effinger communities had been farming and raising beef for seven
generations. The Potter family would raise freezer beef for area
neighbors. As the local food movement grew, so did business for the
Potters. However, the closest USDA inspected facility that could
butcher the Potters beef was a 90 mile trip one way. With more and more
business the Potter family decided that local processing facility was
what they needed. With that they officially created a branded beef
program which is now called Buffalo Creek Beef and approached the Donald
family about the possibility of reopening the slaughter house. Hence a
partnership began between the Potters and the Donald's. After
renovating the original butcher shop to abide by USDA standards and
changing to the current name of Donald's Meat Processing, the butcher
shop reopened for its debut in October of 2009. Today Donald's Meat
Processing is not only a slaughter and processing facility for USDA and
custom beef, pork, lamb, and goats, but also and outlet for people in
the surrounding communities to purchase fresh beef, pork, lamb, chicken,
seafood, bread, preserves, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, ice cream and
seasonal produce. All of which are locally grown Virginia based
products. Just give us a call for special orders. We cut beef fresh
